General Description

Johns Hopkins University recently announced a major new investment in data science and the exploration of artificial intelligence. The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is embarking on an aggressive hiring effort for multiple tenure-track positions. We are interested in excellent candidates whose research falls into one of the following research areas: 

  1. Image processing, computer vision, and machine learning with applications to medical imaging.
  2. Neural engineering, including sensors, actuators, and processing architectures for understanding, repairing, and enhancing peripheral or central nervous system circuits.
  3. Speech and language technologies and applications, including healthcare and education.
  4. Machine learning and artificial intelligence, with special interests in embodied AI, continual and multimodal learning, and autonomous navigation.

The Department of Electrical & Computer has 26 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, 7 research and 2teaching faculty members, 130 PhD students, over 80 MSE students, and 120 undergraduate students. Opportunities for collaboration with numerous research centers and institutes within the Whiting School of Engineering are possible and encouraged. 

Qualifications

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in electrical or computer engineering or a related field and will be expected to contribute to the growth of the Electrical & Computer engineering program, develop an independent research program, secure research funding, and teach courses in the electrical & computer engineering area.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
