General Description

The Department of Civil and Systems Engineering (CaSE) in the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) is undergoing significant growth and seeking multiple faculty candidates at all levels to lead impactful research programs that address societal grand challenges identified by CaSE, including: resilient cities, space exploration and habitation, decision-making and health, human safety and security, and future energy infrastructure.  Aligned with WSE and JHU initiatives, CaSE has particular interest in candidates whose interests include community resilience, health, future infrastructure and space systems,  energy and sustainability, and public policy as it relates to decision-making in these domainsMethods and technologies that enable impact in these domains are of interest, such as advanced materials and manufacturing, advanced modeling and simulation, future structure/habitat systems, and data science and AI. In addition to joining the vibrant group of faculty in CaSE, candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with and leverage new university-wide initiatives in public policy, data sciences and AI, and sustainable energy (ROSEI), as well as additional JHU Schools and CaSE affiliated centers and institutes

 

Working across numerous scales from atomistic to global, and across disciplines in civil and systems engineering, CaSE faculty are connected by a collective desire to bring engineering solutions to society's largest challenges. With a history of novel research in computational modeling, optimization, and uncertainty quantification in physics-based and data-based simulation, CaSE faculty enable engineers, decision-makers, and the public to find solutions. The successful candidate will have an orientation towards impactful research that addresses the CaSE grand challenges and aligns with the targeted research areas, a strong desire to impact society in a positive manner through research and service, and excellent communication skills.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
