General Description

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) and the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Johns Hopkins University offers an exceptional opportunity for recent PhDs in the mathematical sciences to prepare for a career in research and education in Mathematical Biology. We seek to fill a postdoctoral position in which the successful candidate will hold an appointment in AMS. The postdoc's responsibilities are:

1.       Teaching: teach BME courses in Math Biology, supervise undergraduate research in AMS; equivalent to a 1.5-course teaching load per academic year.

2.       Research: conduct transdisciplinary research under the supervision of a BME faculty in her/his laboratory. Johns Hopkins BME is ranked No. 1 in the US.

The AMS-BME Transdisciplinary Training Postdoctoral Fellowship is ideal for mathematical scientists who wish to pursue a career involving interdisciplinary research in academia, industry, or government lab. The fellowship begins July 1, 2024 and can be renewed up to a total of two years. The position offers a competitive salary with funds for professional development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, operations research or related areas by the start of the appointment.

-         Strong programming skills - proficiency in one or more programming languages, familiarity with others.

-         Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and written skills.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
