As part of a strategic investment for a transformative expansion of the faculty of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University is poised for significant growth in the coming years. We invite applications for an Assistant Professor of Sociology working in the sociology of race and ethnicity to join the faculty in the fall of 2025. Candidates with appropriate qualifications are encouraged to apply both to this position and our other search (Assistant Professor of Sociology).
The successful candidate will also become a junior faculty member of the interdisciplinaryAdvancing Racial Equity in Health, Housing, and Education(ARE_HHE) cluster, part of the Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships (BDP) Program. The BDP Program serves as the cornerstone of an ambitious institution-wide effort to incite and conduct world-class interdisciplinary research, teach the next generation of scholars, and collaborate across the divisional strengths of Johns Hopkins to solve critical challenges. A gift by Michael Bloomberg expanded the program to recruit senior and junior faculty members into faculty- developed interdisciplinary research clusters.
The goal of the ARE_HHE cluster is to make Johns Hopkins a world leader in solution-focused practices and policies to promote racial justice in health, housing, and education for young people. As a junior faculty member of the cluster, you would have a pivotal role in defining interdisciplinary initiatives and collaborative work with senior Bloomberg Distinguished Professors.
Successful candidates will have a record of excellent empirical research related to race or ethnicity and will join a growing, vibrant Department of Sociology within a School and University that foster a wide range of interdisciplinary conversations and collaborations, including on gender, race, racism and anti-racism. Applicants should have a record of published scholarship in sociology and expect to have earned their Ph.D. prior to the effective date.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
