General Description

The Peabody Preparatory, a division of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), is pleased to announce an adjunct teaching position in the Harp Department with an anticipated start date of January 2025. The successful candidate will join the dynamic and collaborative Guitar and Tuned-In departments, dedicated to fostering musical excellence in students of all ages and levels. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of teaching harp students of varying ages and skill levels, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. Experience with both individual and group instruction, as well as in person and online modalities, is highly valued.

We are actively seeking instructors for our Downtown Campus, located at 1 E. Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore, MD, 21202. Teachers set their own teaching schedules (subject to space availability), but after-school and/or Saturday hours will be required to meet student needs. The potential exists for this position to grow, depending on candidate qualifications and departmental need.

Located in downtown Baltimore and sharing space with the renowned Peabody Conservatory, the Preparatory also extends its reach through four satellite campuses in the communities of Towson, Annapolis, Frederick, and Howard County, MD.

 

Duties:

  • Teach harp lessons to beginner and advanced students of all ages.
  • Additional teaching opportunities are available during the summer (6-8 weeks).
  • Utilize required institute-wide systems for student attendance, placements, and correspondence.
  • Assist with end-of-semester performances, attend faculty meetings, substitute teach as needed.
  • Aid in the facilitation of Large Ensemble auditions for Harp.
  • Opportunities may be available for candidate to develop classes and workshops according to their experience and interest.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in music and/or music education required. A master's degree or equivalent experience and training are preferred.
  • Documented experience as a harp instructor of advanced, intermediate, and beginner students of all ages.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

-      Documented successful performing experience encouraged.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Some experience teaching group classes welcome.

Salary Range

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
