The Undergraduate Neuroscience Program at Johns Hopkins University (https://krieger.jhu.edu/neuroscience/) invites applications for a Junior Lecturer position, which is a full-time position to assist in teaching courses for the major. The Undergraduate Neuroscience Program is an interdisciplinary program that operates across departments and divisions of the Johns Hopkins University.
The applicant should have a strong background in cellular and molecular neuroscience, as they will play a key role in assisting our foundational Neuroscience Cellular and Systems course. This is a year-long team-taught course that forms a core of undergraduate major curriculum. The Junior Lecturer will work closely with other faculty to deliver engaging and up-to-date content, helping students build a solid foundation in the core concepts of neuroscience, and providing administrative support for the course. In addition, the application will support other courses as necessary in a similar manner to provide teaching assistance to up to 3 courses per semester. The applicant would also be expected to develop introductory level neuroscience summer courses to support the programs goals of expanding student access to neuroscience education and fostering a deeper understanding of the brain and nervous system at an early stage in their academic careers. Applicants must be committed to implementing evidence-based teaching practices aimed to engage students, support improved learning outcomes and foster inclusive classrooms.
The applicant will join an existing group of Teaching track faculty in the program led by the Director of Undergraduate Studies. This position will be filled at the Junior lecturer level with a 1-year renewable contract (9-month salary and additional summer salary based on the summer teaching responsibilities), commensurate with the candidate's experience and current rank. Criteria for promotion include excellence in teaching, educational publications, curriculum development, and pedagogical innovation. The successful candidate will receive competitive salary and benefits options including health and retirement plan participation. The earliest start date for this position is January 15, 2025, with a phase-in of teaching duties.
A Ph.D. is required in a relevant discipline. This is an ideal position for a recent PhD or early-stage postdoc looking to transition to a teaching position.
