The Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute seeks a visionary leader to be appointed Associate or Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Music Education by July 1, 2020. Building on a long tradition of excellence in teacher training, the new Chair will heighten the program's impact on our local and regional communities.
The chair works to develop faculty, staff, and programs, oversee curricula, and budgets, facilitate Music Education department events, ensure compliance with accreditation standards. In addition to providing collaborative and visionary leadership for the department, duties will include teaching, mentoring, and advising graduate and undergraduate music education students. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate music education classes; supervise field experiences and student teaching; pursue an agenda of research, scholarship, and creative work consistent with the candidate's expertise and interests in music education. Finally, the new chair will be a strategic partner in collaboration with outreach efforts in and around the City of Baltimore.
Located in the heart of Baltimore's Mount Vernon Cultural District, Peabody was founded in 1857 as America's first academy of music. Today, through its degree-granting Conservatory and its community-based Preparatory music and dance school, Peabody trains musicians and dancers of every age and at every level. Each year Peabody stages nearly 1000 major public concerts and performances.
