General Description

The Engineering for Professionals division of the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University seeks applicants for online, part-time lecturer positions housed in over 25 different master's degree programs. All lecturers are responsible for the delivery of online/in-person courses (administered either asynchronously or synchronously) to part-time professional master's degree or certificate candidates. Grading support is offered to all instructors of large sections (over 10 registered students).

The highly-ranked online programs at Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals, as shown in the U.S. News and World Report, combine the rigor of traditional Johns Hopkins programs with practical application in fields spanning engineering, applied sciences, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Instructors impart cutting-edge knowledge and real-world skills in collaborative, interactive learning environments, providing students with a unique opportunity to forge lasting professional connections as they work, study, and maintain a manageable work-life balance. Expand your skills and experience as a professional, network with students and colleagues in your field, and be part of a forward-thinking, innovative academic community.

Instructors are expected to familiarize themselves with existing course materials, grade assessments, and interact with students by holding weekly office hours, answering student questions, and participating in online discussions. Instructors of asynchronous courses will likely have no synchronous responsibility in the course other than office hours. Instructors may also be asked to develop online course materials with support from the Whiting School's Center for Learning Design and Technology staff. Orientation to online course instruction will be provided.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree and teaching experience are strongly preferred; however, a master's degree and industry experience are sufficient for some courses. Candidates with experience working with professionals from diverse professional backgrounds and industries are strongly encouraged to apply. We seek applicants who bring unique perspectives and experiences and will contribute to the excellence of our academic and professional community. Due to the online delivery modality, remote location is possible. Remote candidates should pay careful attention to the "preferred location" question on the application.

Vaccine Requirements

Johns Hopkins University strongly encourages, but no longer requires, at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine does not apply to positions located in the State of Florida. We still require all faculty, staff, and students to receive the seasonal flu vaccine. Exceptions to the COVID and flu vaccine requirements may be provided to individuals for religious beliefs or medical reasons. Requests for an exception must be submitted to the JHU vaccination registry. This change does not apply to the School of Medicine (SOM). SOM hires must be fully vaccinated with an FDA COVID-19 vaccination and provide proof of vaccination status. For additional information, applicants for SOM positions should visit https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/coronavirus/covid-19-vaccine/ and all other JHU applicants should visit https://covidinfo.jhu.edu/health-safety/covid-vaccination-information/.

The following additional vaccine requirements may apply, depending upon your campus. Please contact the hiring department for more information. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
