General Description

The Johns Hopkins Division of Rheumatology is heavily invested in efforts to understand the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases through laboratory-based basic and translational research. As part of this initiative, we are inviting applications for a one or two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship position in the Division of Rheumatology at Johns Hopkins University. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with physician-scientist Brendan Antiochos, MD to dissect mechanisms responsible for pathogenic immune responses in female-biased rheumatic diseases (SLE and Sjogren's Disease). This research program revolves around the role of the long noncoding RNA XIST in TLR7-dependent immune signaling in these conditions.

We are looking for exceptional applicants with solid laboratory and computational expertise. The selected applicant will be offered competitive compensation along with access to laboratory and computing resources, travel funds, and additional benefits consistent with department and university guidelines.

The ideal applicant should have the following qualifications:

1. A PhD degree in Immunology, Cell Biology, or a related laboratory-based field.

2. Strong technical, methodological and computational skills. Specific background in cell culture, flow cytometry, computational analysis of gene expression data, and related molecular and cell biology techniques are desired. Experience in developing and conducting CRISPR screens would be ideal, but is not required.

3. Creativity, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and good written and oral communication skills.

4. Interest in working on mechanisms of autoimmunity, but prior experience in this specific scientific field is not required.

The following additional vaccine requirements may apply, depending upon your campus. Please contact the hiring department for more information. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
